Food Cupboard honours its volunteers, lifeline to success

EMC News - The Kanata Food Cupboard held a small volunteer appreciation dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 3 as a thank you to its dedicated volunteers following the busy Christmas season.

Kanata Food Cupboard volunteer coordinator Amanda Burnside, Carleton-Mississippi Mills MP Gordon O'Connor, Ward 23 Kanata South councillor Peggy Feltmate, Kanata Food Cupboard chair of the board Tom Smellie, Kanata Food Cupboard client coordinator Karen Waters and Ward 4 Kanata North councillor Marianne Wilkinson were on-hand to thank the volunteers of the Kanata Food Cupboard on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
This year marks the Food Cupboard's 25th year in the area.
"They play a vital role in the community," said Ward 23 Kanata South councillor Peggy Feltmate about the Kanata Food Cupboard. "They spread generosity throughout the community. They get a lot of support from the community and give a lot of support to the community. We are so lucky to have the generosity of the volunteers to help the Food Cupboard."
Ward 4 Kanata North councillor Marianne Wilkinson and Carleton-Mississippi Mills MP Gordon O'Connor were also present to thank the volunteers and join in the celebrations.
Kanata Food Cupboard volunteer coordinator Amanda Burnside explained that the evening was a way for the Food Cupboard to thank all its volunteers who helped during the busy Christmas season.
Wilkinson noted that she and her husband volunteered to deliver Christmas hampers on the Saturday. By the time they finished delivering one, all the hampers were gone because there was so many volunteers supporting the Food Cupboard.
The Kanata Food Cupboard is a non-profit charitable organization. Its primary mission is "to collect and distribute food products to self-identifying individuals requiring emergency food service."
