Breanna Rich, Myranda Bingham, Megan Kawai, Marie Arsenault, and Lucinda Nowell from Kanata Rhythmic Gymnastics Club were selected for participation in the Ontario Winter Games.
Breanna Rich, Myranda Bingham, Megan Kawai, Marie Arsenault, and Lucinda Nowell were selected for participation in the Games, which brought together 3,300 young athletes in 27 different sports. The opening ceremonies featured speeches by former Olympians, the Ontario Minister of Health as well as other dignitaries, and musical performances by the band Stereos, fresh from their Olympic performances, and finished with an enormous display of fireworks.
The rhythmic gymnasts stayed together in cabins at the Muskoka Woods Sports Resort along with athletes from all the other gymnastics disciplines. The competition was in a team format, with the 36 rhythmic gymnasts being divided into six teams. All the scores from each of three routines counted towards the team total.
In the final calculations, Breanna Rich's team won the gold medal, Megan Kawai's team won silver, and Myranda Bingham's team won the bronze. All the rhythmic gymnasts had a fantastic competitive experience at this large multi-sport event, which was designed to reward young athletes for their hard work and dedication to their sport while preparing them for national and international level competition.
The Kanata Rhythmic Gymnastics Club also sent along team manager Helen Nowell, and coach Jessie Perry, who is a level three judge, to the Games.
