West End Recreation Guide now available
Posted Mar 12, 2010 By Eli El-ChantiryEMC News - Ward 5 residents should have received their copy of the of the Spring-Summer 2010 West End Recreation Guide in the mail.
Copies will also be available soon at Client Service Centres, Community Centres, libraries and a limited number of local convenience stores.
The guide can also be downloaded from my website www.ward5Eli.com.
To access the city-wide guide for the City of Ottawa, please visit www.Ottawa.ca.
My office has received a few calls recently whereby callers are expressing frustration at having to register at midnight of the day programs are online for registration.
My staff has spoken with Parks and Recreation department and there are some good reasons for this "midnight madness." The main reason is simply that the servers are not able to manage the vast number of registrants that would access the online service if it opened up during a peak hour.
The end result is the same, limited number of spots for popular programs and therefore a limited number of registrants possible.
It would not be worth the financial cost to tax payers to have the infrastructure in place that would accommodate 100 per cent of registrants, for what is ultimately the same end result each time.
SEASONAL LOAD RESTRICTIONS FOR HEAVY VEHICLES
During the spring thaw period, many roads in the City of Ottawa cannot withstand heavy loads.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, all commercial vehicles or trailers with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 5 tonnes or 11,000 lbs. per axle are prohibited on roads where restriction signage is posted, and on all roads identified as restricted on the 2010 Truck Route Map. These restrictions also apply to all non-truck routes.
Heavy vehicles that exceed posted weight limits during the spring thaw period may be fined. For more information and to access the 2010 Truck Map, go to www.ottawa.ca.
Load restrictions will remain in effect on the identified city roads until 12:01 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010. This date is subject to change based on spring thaw conditions.
