The presentation by Ray's Reptiles is always a big hit with the children at the Kanata-Hazeldean Lions Club's Winter Carnival. This year's event will take place on Feb. 11.
The day-long Winter West event has a host of activities for the whole family, said Todd Sloan, publicity director for the Lions.
"The whole family always has a great time taking part," he said.
The event, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Lion Dick Brule Community Centre, starts at 8:30 a.m. with a traditional breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausages. Breakfast will be served until 11:30 a.m.
Other events include:
- Free sleigh rides from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Ray's Reptiles will show off its critters from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
- Following that will be a presentation from Brian Mc-Cullough on what happened to the dinosaurs.
- Winter Carnival Euchre will start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person and includes cash prizes, draws throughout the evening and a meal after the last hand.
"The look on kiddies' faces when they see the horses and the snakes is a real hoot," said Sloan.
The Glen Cairn Community Association will also be sponsoring a friendly game of shinny at the Clarence Maheral outdoor rink (Pumphouse Park) to celebrate Hockey Day in Canada between two Kanata atom hockey teams.
The ceremonial puck drop will be at 11 a.m.
The community centre is located at 170 Castlefrank Rd. For more information, contact Sloan at 613-591-3609 or by email at toddsloan@me.com.
